East Jakarta constructs new sidewalks and relocates vendors in Kramat Jati

The East Jakarta City Government is constructing new sidewalks and curbs along Jalan Raya Bogor in the Kramat Jati area. The project, which covers approximately 100 meters with a width of 2 to 2.5 meters, is currently about 60 percent complete and is expected to be finished by the coming Thursday. The construction aims to improve safety and comfort for both pedestrians and motorists.

This infrastructure work coincides with the relocation of 193 street vendors, primarily fishmongers, from the roadside to a designated managed location (Lokbin). The relocation process is reportedly 85 percent complete, with finishing touches such as lighting and toilet repairs currently underway.

Following the relocation, traffic congestion in front of the Kramat Jati Market and Jalan Raya Bogor has decreased. While the move has cleared the sidewalks and improved vehicle flow, some vendors have expressed concerns regarding the new location, citing potential issues with customer parking and accessibility compared to their previous roadside spots.
