East Java Governor launches Independence Day expeditions and ceremonies

East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has launched several initiatives to commemorate Indonesia's 81st Independence Day.

On Saturday, the Governor dispatched the Expedition 81 team from the Grahadi State Building in Surabaya. The group, consisting of 500 climbers and supporters, aims to raise the Red and White flag at the summit of Mount Arjuno and unfurl an 81-meter flag. The expedition also focuses on environmental conservation, including the planting of 500 Ficus and mountain pine trees to promote forest maintenance and prevent wildfires.

Additionally, Governor Khofifah officially inaugurated 76 members of the 2026 East Java Paskibraka (National Flag Hoisting Troop) at the Grahadi State Building. These members, selected from various districts and cities across the province, are tasked with the ceremonial raising and lowering of the national flag during the Independence Day celebrations.
