East Mediterranean Gas Forum focuses on European energy security

The East Mediterranean Gas Forum, co-hosted by HELLENiQ ENERGY in Athens, focused on the region's potential to serve as a critical energy corridor for Europe. The high-level event brought together government officials, energy industry representatives, and investors to discuss leveraging regional energy resources amid geopolitical challenges.

Key discussions centered on energy corridors, LNG infrastructure, pipelines, storage, and regional electrical interconnections. Participants included energy ministers from Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt, emphasizing cooperation to enhance European energy security.

Regarding the electrical interconnection project between Greece and Cyprus, Cypriot Energy Minister Michalis Damianos indicated that if studies by the European Investment Bank reveal increased costs, the project would seek new investors or additional grants from the European Commission. This follows a decision by the Greek government to issue a navtex for bathymetric surveys scheduled for late October.
