East Midlands Railway extends reduced Intercity timetable until July 17 because of heat‑related train issues

East Midlands Railway (EMR) announced that its temporary reduced Intercity timetable will remain in place through Friday 17 July. The continuation follows exceptionally high temperatures that have left several trains requiring additional inspections, maintenance and repairs, limiting fleet availability. EMR said the reduced service helps protect the wider network and maintain resilience while it works with Network Rail and fleet partners to return trains to full operation. Passengers were urged to check journeys on the EMR website or app and to allow extra travel time. Philippa Cresswell, EMR’s Customer Experience Director, said the priority is to keep as much of the railway running as possible while operating safely.
