East Wave Brings Heavy Rain and Storms to Veracruz

An East Wave moving over the Isthmus of Tehuantepec is expected to increase rain and thunderstorms across central and southern Veracruz on Sunday, with moderate to strong precipitation, frequent lightning, and wind gusts up to 45 km/h. Authorities advised caution for small vessels and beach activities.

The National Water Commission (Conagua) warned that, despite the region entering the hot summer period (canícula), isolated showers with electrical activity will continue. Temperatures in the port of Veracruz may reach 34 °C with humidity over 90 %, and night‑time rain accumulations of 5–10 mm are forecast, while higher‑elevation basins such as Coatzacoalcos, Tonalá and Los Tuxtlas could see 50–75 mm of rain. A distant Pacific Hurricane Genoveva is not expected to affect the area, and no new Atlantic tropical development is currently likely.
