Eastern Economic Forum focuses on Far East development and Asia-Pacific ties

The 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), held in Vladivostok from September 1–4, 2026, focused on the theme ‘Developing the Far East for the Benefit of Its People’. The event serves as a major platform for Russia to strengthen economic ties within the Asia-Pacific region and attract foreign investment to its Far East territory, particularly as it seeks to integrate with Asian economies amidst Western sanctions.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended as the guest of honor and the only foreign head of state at the forum. A key highlight was a bilateral meeting between President Prabowo and Russian President Vladimir Putin, marking their sixth encounter. This meeting aimed to advance strategic partnerships in sectors including energy, space, agriculture, industry, and pharmaceuticals.

The forum has seen significant growth, with 2025 recording 358 agreements valued at approximately 71 billion dollars. For the 2026 edition, participants expected representatives from 80 countries to discuss infrastructure, technology, logistics, and regional development, emphasizing the Far East as a hub for international interaction between Russia and partners such as China, India, and ASEAN.
