easyJet cabin crew strike disrupts flights in Portugal
easyJet cabin crew members in Portugal have launched a five-day strike running from October 2 to October 6. The industrial action, organized by the Sindicato Nacional do Pessoal de Voo da Aviação Civil (SNPVAC), targets the airline's bases in Lisbon, Porto, and Faro.
The union reports that approximately 80% of scheduled flights from these bases—totaling around 443 flights—have been canceled. The dispute centers on deteriorating working conditions, including roster instability, pay, and seniority-based progression.
easyJet has stated it expects to operate roughly 55% of its schedule by utilizing minimum services and aircraft/crews from other European bases. The union has contested this practice, labeling the use of foreign crews to replace strikers as “illegal” and threatening legal action. The strike is also impacting passenger travel between the United Kingdom and Portugal.
