easyJet strike in Portugal cancels over 440 flights

A cabin crew strike by easyJet in Portugal, running from October 2 to October 6, has resulted in the cancellation of at least 443 flights across the Lisbon, Porto, and Faro bases. The National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC) reports that approximately 80% of flights between these three bases have been cancelled.

The union has accused the airline of using crews from other European bases, such as France, to replace striking workers, a practice they claim is illegal. SNPVAC also expressed concerns regarding the potential use of management staff to operate flights. easyJet has denied these allegations, stating that its operations involving crews from other bases are in full compliance with legislation and that it expects to operate roughly 55% of its scheduled program during the strike period.

The labor dispute is driven by demands for roster stability, seniority-based pay increases, and improved conditions within the company agreement. A second strike is currently scheduled for December 19 to 23.
