France reports first Ebola case in doctor from DRC

French health authorities confirmed the first Ebola case on French territory. A doctor who had been working on a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus. He was taken to a specialised infectious‑disease centre on arrival, placed in isolation and is reported to be in stable condition.

The ministry activated contact‑tracing, identified and will monitor all persons who were exposed, requiring a 21‑day home isolation. The World Health Organization said the global risk remains low and urged no panic. The outbreak in the DRC, declared a public‑health emergency in May, has surpassed 1,000 confirmed infections and more than 250 deaths, with spread to neighbouring Uganda. French officials, including the prime minister, are closely following the situation.
