Ebonyi PDP faces allegations of political violence and voter card irregularities

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State is facing multiple controversies involving security and electoral integrity. Former PDP Chairman Ifeanyi Nworie has accused the Ebonyi State Police Command of inaction following an attack on a political rally in Ezza South LGA on August 2, 2026. Nworie alleges that over 50 individuals attacked the venue, injuring ten PDP members and several journalists, while police officers reportedly watched without intervening.

Nworie claims he had formally requested security due to life threats prior to the event, though the Police Command, via spokesperson SP Joshua Ukandu, stated they had received no such petition. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi has denied any involvement in the violence.

Separately, the Ebonyi PDP has issued a formal rebuttal against allegations regarding the illegal procurement of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections. Party Publicity Secretary Prince Darlington Peter Onwe dismissed these claims as fabrications intended to tarnish the party's image, asserting that the organization remains committed to following the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.
