Ebonyi State police investigate death of elder after political endorsement
Police in Ebonyi State have launched an investigation into the death of Elder Onwe Ubochi, a 70-year-old man whose body was discovered along a bush path and stream in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area.
Ubochi reportedly went missing on Monday, August 17, 2026, after participating in a prayer session and public endorsement of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidates. Tochukwu Ogalagu, an APGA candidate for the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, described the killing as “gruesome and dastardly,” alleging it may be linked to political threats issued ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ebonyi State Police spokesman, Superintendent Joshua Ukandu, confirmed that the body was evacuated to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki. The command has commenced a comprehensive investigation to identify those responsible and has urged members of the public to provide information to assist in the case.
