Ebro Ahmed stops moving school bus in Saint Paul

Ebro Ahmed, a 27-year-old Somali resident of Saint Paul, Minnesota, intervened to stop a moving school bus after the driver suffered a medical emergency. Ahmed witnessed the vehicle rolling at approximately ten miles per hour with its doors open and warning lights flashing.

Upon boarding the bus, Ahmed discovered the driver experiencing a medical crisis. Although he had no prior experience driving a bus, he managed to bring the vehicle to a halt by using the parking brake after an initial mistake with the gear controls.

There were 19 to 20 students from Battle Creek Middle School on board at the time of the incident. Saint Paul Public Schools confirmed that no students sustained injuries. The driver was transported to a hospital and subsequently released to recover at home. Ahmed credited his ability to remain calm during the crisis to watching the medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy.”
