St. Paul school bus medical emergency

Overview

In October 2026, Ebro Ahmed, a resident of Saint Paul, Minnesota, intervened to stop a moving school bus after witnessing the driver suffer a medical emergency. Ahmed observed the vehicle, which was traveling at approximately ten miles per hour with its doors open, and boarded the bus while it was still in motion.

Once inside, Ahmed attempted to secure the vehicle. While he initially made a mistake with the gear controls, he successfully brought the bus to a halt by engaging the parking brake.

Between 18 and 20 students from Battle Creek Middle School were on board during the incident. Saint Paul Public Schools confirmed that no students sustained injuries. The driver was transported to a hospital and later released to recover at home. Ahmed, who noted he has no formal medical training, credited his ability to remain calm to watching the television show ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.
