Ecknoglutide shows significant weight loss in adolescent obesity trials
HK inno.N, which holds exclusive domestic rights for the obesity and diabetes drug Ecknoglutide, announced positive results from a Phase 1b clinical trial targeting obese adolescents. The study, conducted by partner Xiwind Biosciences, was presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Milan.
The trial involved 48 Chinese adolescents aged 12 to 17. Over a 20-week period, participants receiving doses of 1.2mg, 1.8mg, or 2.4mg of Ecknoglutide showed a body mass index (BMI) reduction of 11.2% to 12.6% and a weight reduction of 10.4% to 12.1%. In contrast, the placebo group saw a 1.2% increase in weight.
Ecknoglutide is a cAMP-biased GLP-1 receptor agonist designed to enhance efficacy and safety through selective signaling. Beyond weight loss, the study noted improvements in waist circumference, neck circumference, and metabolic indicators such as HbA1c, triglycerides, and blood pressure. The drug demonstrated a favorable safety and tolerability profile similar to adult studies. HK inno.N is currently conducting Phase 3 clinical trials for the drug in South Korea for both adult obesity and diabetes.
