ECLAC to host regional summit on geopolitical and sustainable development
Representatives from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) are scheduled to convene for significant regional discussions regarding economic, social, and environmental development. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will host its biennial gathering from October 7-9 in the Dominican Republic, featuring authorities from 45 member states and 14 associate members.
The meeting will include addresses by Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader Corona and ECLAC Executive Secretary José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs. A key component of the event is the presentation of a document titled ‘Managing Transformations in an Era of Ruptures,’ which analyzes shifts in global development conditions and proposes new frameworks for governance and institutional capacity.
In conjunction with these efforts, regional consultations are being held to inform the 2027 Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR). These sessions, including a meeting in Quito, Ecuador, aim to gather evidence from scientists, policymakers, and private-sector experts to accelerate progress on Sustainable Development Goals. Discussions will focus on energy decarbonization, human wellbeing, and strengthening resilience to global shocks.
