Eco-Bahia and Samaná municipalities partner for native tree planting

The Eco-Bahia Foundation has signed collaboration agreements with the municipalities of Las Terrenas and Santa Bárbara de Samaná in the Dominican Republic to promote urban reforestation using native and endemic species.

In partnership with the Dr. Rafael M. Moscoso National Botanical Garden, the initiative aims to protect local flora, specifically targeting species that are currently classified as critically endangered. The project focuses on developing green infrastructure within public spaces, protected areas, urban basins, coastal-marine zones, and road corridors.

Alex Matás, director of Eco-Bahia in the Dominican Republic, stated that these agreements aim to integrate nature into urban environments to increase environmental resilience and improve the quality of life for residents. In Las Terrenas, the agreement, known as the Pact for Life and Sustainability, is intended to help offset the environmental impact of local real estate development.
