Environmental conservation and public space initiatives in D
Overview
Various reforestation and conservation projects have been launched across different regions of the Dominican Republic through partnerships between government agencies, private corporations, and foundations.
In the Samaná Peninsula, the Eco-Bahia Foundation signed agreements with the municipalities of Las Terrenas and Santa Bárbara de Samaná. Working with the Dr. Rafael M. Moscoso National Botanical Garden, the initiative focuses on urban reforestation using native and endemic species, specifically targeting critically endangered flora to increase environmental resilience.
In El Seibo, a collaboration involving Central Romana Corporation, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Dominican Navy resulted in the planting of 1,500 trees, including cedar and mahogany, to create a four-kilometer green corridor to protect biodiversity. In Dajabón, a beautification project was conducted at Colonia Japonesa park by several entities, including Empresas Mukai, the Ministry of Environment, and the Tourist Cluster, which also included recognizing the Dajabón Forest Firefighters for their role in protecting regional natural resources.
Expanding into infrastructure and tourism, Tourism Minister David Collado officially inaugurated the renovated Anacaona Park in Constanza, La Vega. This project involved an investment of RD$ 29,295,758 and covers approximately 5,039 square meters, featuring new sidewalks, wooden flooring, stairs, and a reinforced central gazebo to enhance local tourism and address community requests for improved public spaces.
