Economic shifts impact markets in Honduras and Argentina
In Honduras, vendors at the Farmer and Artisan Fair and various markets in Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela are reporting a decline in sales and customer foot traffic. Merchants attribute this to economic difficulties facing families, noting that consumers are operating with limited budgets and seeking only the most affordable options.
Rising costs from distributors are also impacting vendors. For instance, some poultry products, including medallions and various offal, have seen price increases of five lempiras. Some vendors have chosen to absorb these costs themselves to avoid losing customers.
In Argentina, the Mercado Popular in La Rioja has announced that all vendors at the Paseo Evita will now accept ‘Chachos’ vouchers as a form of payment. This initiative aims to allow families to use provincial government extraordinary aid to purchase essential goods, such as meat, poultry, fish, fruits, and vegetables, directly from local workers and entrepreneurs.
