Peru mining exports surge 55% amid rising technology imports
Peru is experiencing significant growth in its mining and technology sectors. Mining exports surged by 55% between January and June 2026, totaling US$42,692 million. This growth was primarily driven by high international prices for strategic minerals like copper and gold, which are essential for the energy transition and digital infrastructure. Total exports for the period from January to August 2026 reached US$74,123 million, a 34.3% increase compared to the previous year, bolstered by a record-breaking month in August where exports exceeded US$10 billion.
In July 2026, domestic mining production showed continued dynamism, with increases in copper (3.7%), silver (0.5%), iron (2.4%), tin (6.5%), and molybdenum (15.0%).
Simultaneously, technology imports in Peru grew by 46% from January to July 2026, reaching US$1,709 million. This rise is attributed to the renewal of digital infrastructure and high demand for connectivity devices. Smartphones led this category with US$1,047 million in imports, representing a 63% increase in value compared to the same period in 2025. Laptops and tablets also saw significant growth, reflecting increased technological integration in both households and businesses.
