Ecovidrio launches glass recycling campaigns in Spain, including transparent container in Alicante
The city council of Alicante and the recycling organisation Ecovidrio installed Spain's first transparent glass‑recycling container in the Glorieta Deportista Sergio Cardell. The container has a methacrylate side panel that lets the public see the contents, aiming to dispel misconceptions about glass collection and emphasize that glass is recycled separately and can be reused indefinitely.
Ecovidrio also rolled out a summer campaign titled “No cerramos por vacaciones” to remind Spaniards that glass recycling does not stop during holiday periods. The campaign uses humor and the song “Se me olvidó otra vez” by Juan Gabriel, showing the familiar green container in beach and terrace settings, and highlights that about one‑quarter of Spaniards recycle less glass in summer. Both initiatives target the persistence of myths about recycling and seek to maintain recycling habits year‑round.
