ECOWAS Bank approves $417 million for West African infrastructure projects

The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) and its investment arm, the West African Development Bank (BIDC), approved a total of over $417 million at their 99th Ordinary Session on 6 July 2026. The funding covers five projects across the region:

• US$260 million for a 123‑kilometre stretch of the Trans‑Saharan Highway in Nigeria, aimed at improving trade corridors and lowering logistics costs. • XOF 10 billion (about US$17 million) as a line of credit to Côte d’Ivoire’s Banque de l’Habitat to expand housing finance and support construction SMEs. • €80 million for the design, construction and equipment of a 150‑bed Regional Hospital in Ferkessédougou, Côte d’Ivoire, under a public‑private partnership. • XOF 12.82 billion for the renovation, operation and maintenance of the Symphonie Building in Abidjan, also under a PPP, to modernise a key public‑sector asset. • US$47.4 million for Azumah Resources Ghana Limited to procure early‑stage equipment for the Black Volta gold project.

Dr George Agyekum Donkor, President of EBID, said the approvals demonstrate the bank’s “unwavering commitment to financing development solutions that directly improve the lives of West African citizens.” The investments support the bank’s Growth, Resilience and Optimisation (GRO) strategy, targeting infrastructure, health, housing, mining and financial resilience to boost regional connectivity, job creation and economic growth.
