ECOWAS strengthens cooperation with Cabo Verde

The newly appointed ECOWAS Resident Representative to Cabo Verde, Ambassador João Butiam Co, has initiated a series of high-level meetings to strengthen regional integration and cooperation between the West African bloc and the island nation.

Discussions with Cabo Verdean government officials covered several strategic sectors. In foreign affairs, Ambassador Manuel Amante da Rosa and Ambassador Butiam Co reaffirmed the importance of institutional dialogue. Health sector collaboration was explored with Minister Dr. Lúcio Miranda Fernandes and the West African Health Organization (WAHO).

Environmental and energy priorities were addressed in meetings with Minister Carlos Varela, focusing on renewable energy and the role of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE). Additionally, meetings with Minister Adelsia Almeida focused on social inclusion, labor, and the tangible benefits of regional integration for citizens.
