Cabo Verde regional and health cooperation
Overview
Cabo Verde has engaged in increased diplomatic and institutional cooperation regarding regional integration and health security.
Following high-level meetings between the newly appointed ECOWAS Resident Representative and Cabo Verdean officials, the two entities explored collaboration in foreign affairs, renewable energy, and health sectors. These discussions focused on strengthening regional integration and the role of the West African Health Organization.
Concurrently, Cabo Verde secured a leadership role in continental health governance. Minister of Health Lúcio Fernandes was elected to a two-year term as vice-president of the Monitoring Committee for the African Public Health Emergency Fund (APHEF) during a World Health Organization meeting in Ethiopia. This position is intended to assist in overseeing the fund’s implementation and transparency regarding health emergencies and epidemic responses across Africa.
