ECOWAS strengthens regional integration through healthcare and free movement initiatives

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has launched several initiatives to strengthen regional integration and healthcare infrastructure. In Lomé, Togo, the ECOWAS Commission, the West African Health Organisation (WAHO), and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) held a ceremony to hand over 30 Land Cruiser 78 Series medical ambulances. These vehicles are equipped with biomedical tools and are intended to improve emergency care and universal health coverage across member states.

Simultaneously, ECOWAS officials engaged stakeholders at the Akanu-Noepe Joint Border Post to sensitize communities regarding the Protocol on the Free Movement of Persons, Goods and Services. This engagement, involving representatives from Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria, focused on the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor. The initiative aims to increase public understanding of free movement rights to boost trade, investment, and tourism while emphasizing the importance of security consciousness and proper documentation for travelers and traders.
