Paraguayan Senate approves shortlists for Comptroller General

The Paraguayan Senate has approved the shortlists of candidates for the positions of Comptroller General and Deputy Comptroller General of the Republic. These lists have been forwarded to the Chamber of Deputies, which holds the final authority to elect the officials through an absolute majority vote.

The shortlist for Comptroller General includes the current incumbent, Camilo Daniel Benítez Aldana, alongside Mabel Bogado Oviedo and Carlos Vera Ruiz. The shortlist for Deputy Comptroller General consists of Armindo Torres Torres, the current director of Sworn Declarations at the Comptroller General's Office; Augusto José Félix Paiva, the current deputy comptroller; and Cosme Alfredo Torres Rodríguez.

The selection process followed several weeks of public hearings and background reviews. While the Senate reached a decision, the process sparked debate among legislators, with some questioning the potential continuity of current authorities and others expressing concerns regarding political influence within the shortlists.
