Ecuador CNE accredits observers and selects polling board members

Ecuador's National Electoral Council (CNE) is advancing preparations for the upcoming sectional and CPCCS elections scheduled for November 29, 2026. The CNE has officially accredited 354 national and foreign observers to monitor various stages of the process, including voting, scrutiny, and the proclamation of results.

Additionally, the CNE has selected 288,949 citizens to serve as members of the Polling Station Boards (JRV). The selection heavily features university students, who comprise approximately 79.77% of the group. Notifications for these members began on September 4 and will continue through November 14, 2026. Selected individuals must undergo mandatory in-person training between September 7 and November 29.

In Pastaza, 2,450 citizens have been designated for polling stations, with the CNE establishing local instruction points to facilitate training. To mitigate risks from the El Niño phenomenon, the CNE is also developing contingency plans, including the potential relocation of polling sites and the establishment of Electoral Security Tables to coordinate with emergency services and law enforcement.
