Ecuador CNE announces ballot colors for 2026 elections
The National Electoral Council (CNE) has established a color-coded system for the ballots to be used in the sectional elections and the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS) scheduled for November 29, 2026. A total of 5,749 main authorities will be elected across the country.
Specific colors have been assigned to different roles: brown for prefects and vice-prefects, gray for mayors, dark green for urban councilors, light blue for rural councilors, and light green for parish board members. For the CPCCS, yellow ballots will be used for male candidates, pink for female candidates, and orange for representatives of indigenous peoples, Afro-Ecuadorians, Montubios, and Ecuadorians living abroad.
In preparation for the vote, a Security Table has been activated to coordinate actions against potential disruptions caused by the El Niño phenomenon. Authorities are monitoring road conditions, electrical supplies, and the safety of the 157 established polling stations to ensure the electoral process proceeds without incident.
