Ecuador CNE approves bank transfers for polling station members
The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador has approved a reform to allow the USD 20 compensation for members of Polling Stations (Juntas Receptoras del Voto) to be paid via bank transfer. This decision, made by the CNE Plenary on October 21, 2026, aims to expedite the distribution of funds and reduce long queues at financial institutions following election days.
To utilize this option, citizens must voluntarily register their savings or checking account details through a specific module on the official CNE website. This registration is open to accounts from any legally constituted bank or credit union within the national financial system. The deadline for digital registration is the day of the elections, scheduled for November 29, 2026.
Despite the new digital option, the CNE will maintain two traditional payment methods: on-site payments for members in rural or hard-to-reach areas, and over-the-counter payments for those without active bank accounts or who prefer not to use the digital platform. Disbursements via transfer will be executed automatically once attendance is validated after the electoral process closes.
