Ecuador conducts measles vaccination sweep in Cuenca neighborhoods

The Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador activated epidemiological surveillance in Cuenca after a suspected measles case, establishing an epidemiological perimeter and a blocking vaccination campaign in high‑risk sectors.

Mobile health brigades visited 263 homes in the Totoracocha, Monay and San Pedro del Cebollar neighborhoods between 17‑18 July, checking vaccination cards and delivering 31 free doses to children, youths and adults with incomplete schedules. Authorities urged families to verify records, seek care for symptoms such as fever, rash, cough or conjunctivitis, and limit contact with vulnerable groups. The operation is intensified as Ecuador prepares for increased international travel linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite retaining its measles‑free certification.
