Ecuador dengue cases surpass 2025 totals with 38,607 infections

Dengue fever cases in Ecuador have reached 38,607, surpassing the total number of infections recorded throughout 2025. According to the latest epidemiological bulletin from the Ministry of Public Health, the surge has been particularly notable in recent weeks.

Health experts attribute the increase to climatic conditions, including heavy rainfall and high temperatures, which facilitate the breeding of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Additionally, water storage practices in areas with inconsistent supply contribute to mosquito reproduction.

The provinces of Manabí, Guayas, and Los Ríos account for 63.76% of the total cases, with Manabí reporting 11,137 infections and Guayas reporting 9,134. Other affected regions include Santo Domingo, Esmeraldas, El Oro, Santa Elena, Cotopaxi, Napo, Azuay, and Galápagos.
