Ecuador designates 288,949 citizens for 2026 election polling boards
In Ecuador, the National Electoral Council has designated 288,949 citizens to serve as members of the Polling Station Boards (JRV) for the upcoming elections on November 29, 2026. These members, many of whom are university students, are responsible for ensuring transparent sectional elections.
Authorities have announced strict sanctions for non-compliance. Failure to attend mandatory in-person training will result in a fine of $48.20, equivalent to 10% of a unified basic salary. Missing the election day will increase the fine to $72.30. The most severe penalties involve abandoning the polling station, which can lead to fines ranging from six to ten basic salaries and a suspension of citizen participation rights for up to six months. Members who complete their duties will receive a $20 compensation.
