Ecuador egg prices rise to nearly USD 5 per carton

Egg prices have risen significantly across at least eight provinces in Ecuador, with prices in some markets reaching nearly USD 5 per carton. In Tungurahua, farm prices rose 30% in less than three months, while consumer prices increased by 36%.

This price surge follows a period of oversupply last year when prices fell below production costs. In response to those low prices, poultry producers reduced their number of laying hens. This reduction in flock size has led to lower supply and higher costs.

In addition to Tungurahua and Cotopaxi, price increases have been reported in Manabí, El Oro, Esmeraldas, Carchi, Azuay, and Loja, where cartons are priced between USD 4.50 and USD 5.
