Ecuador electoral tribunal disqualifies key Manabí candidates
The Electoral Contentious Tribunal (TCE) has upheld the disqualification of Luisa González from running for the Prefecture of Manabí, following a decision by the National Electoral Council (CNE). This ruling also excludes assemblyman Jaime Estrada from the race, removing two key candidates from the Revolución Ciudadana party.
In response, Gabriela Rivadeneira, president of Revolución Ciudadana, announced an emergency strategy to promote mass null voting for the Manabí prefecture. The party aims to reach the threshold required to force the annulment of the election process, which they claim is a defense against a “fraudulent electoral process.”
As the November 29, 2026, sectional elections approach, the CNE is managing several concurrent processes. This includes the notification of polling station members, the accreditation of electoral observers, and the resolution of 219 objections filed against over 53,500 registered candidacies nationwide. The electoral calendar includes training for poll workers, national simulations, and the official campaign period scheduled for mid-November.
