Ecuador expands maritime connectivity with new Asia shipping service

DP World has launched the AX4 shipping service at the Port of Posorja in Ecuador, providing a direct weekly connection to Asian markets. Operated jointly by Ocean Network Express and Hyundai Merchant Marine, the service aims to reduce reliance on transshipment hubs and offers transit times of approximately 21 days. This new route supports the export of temperature-sensitive goods such as shrimp, bananas, and broccoli.

In a related development regarding maritime efficiency, the Ecuadorian Federation of Exporters (FEDEXPOR) has introduced the 'Barómetro Naviero'. This online platform is designed to monitor shipping service performance, logistics costs, and technical indicators. The initiative seeks to address logistical inefficiencies in Ecuador, where logistics costs currently account for 17.9% of export sales, a higher margin than neighboring competitors like Chile and Peru.
