Ecuador fights forest fires in Guano and Guayaquil neighborhoods
Firefighters from the Guano fire department contained a forest fire in the Tahualag sector of San Andrés on August 6. The blaze, fueled by dry vegetation, burned about 3,500 m² before the unit UR‑4 and its crew extinguished it and returned to base without incident.
In the northwest district of Socio Vivienda 1 in Guayaquil, a second forest fire erupted the same afternoon, producing a dense column of smoke visible across the city. The Guayaquil fire department deployed seven urban‑forest combat units, four tankers, two fire‑engine trucks and an ambulance. By 17:00 the crews were still battling the flames as temperatures remained high.
