Ecuador launches 'Frontera Segura' border security project with U.S. support

Ecuador and the United States signed an implementation charter for the "Estrategia Frontera Segura" initiative, aimed at strengthening management and control of the country's border zones. The agreement was signed by Ecuador's Interior Ministry and the U.S. Office of National Drug Control Policy (INL) at the American embassy, with participation from the Defense Ministry and the National Customs Service. Interior Minister John Reimberg said the project will modernise border management, improve coordination among security agencies and increase the state's presence in strategic frontier areas. He added, "The initiative seeks to strengthen the presence of the State in these strategic spaces through modern, coordinated, result‑oriented border management." The collaboration is intended to enhance Ecuador's ability to confront challenges in its border regions.
