Ecuador's National Assembly removes CPCCS member David Rosero

The National Assembly of Ecuador censured and removed David Rosero from his position as a member of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS) on October 13, 2026. The decision was reached with 84 votes in favor, supported largely by the Acción Democrática Nacional (ADN) party and allied legislators.

Rosero was accused of a conflict of interest and failure to perform his duties following allegations of an unofficial meeting with Inés Maritza Romero Estévez, a candidate in the selection process for the Attorney General of the State. The prosecution, led by legislator Sergio Peña, presented photographic evidence and vehicle GPS records suggesting Rosero was near a residence belonging to Romero during the evaluation period.

In his defense, Rosero denied the meeting took place, claiming he was in Guayaquil at the time and suggesting the photographic evidence was manipulated using artificial intelligence. The removal also includes a two-year disqualification from holding public office.
