Ecuador President Noboa accuses Rafael Correa of launching defamation campaign

President Daniel Noboa of Ecuador said on X that former president Rafael Correa is running a defamation campaign aimed at harming his family’s name and undermining democracy. Noboa cited audio excerpts reportedly linking Correa to ex‑police officer Rodney Rengel and the “case Porsche” investigation tied to the 2025 Guayaquil car‑bomb attack.

Former president Guillermo Lasso also used X to charge the correísmo with fabricating false narratives, referencing Correa’s own admission of a virtual meeting with Rengel. Lasso argued the meeting was meant to investigate the Porsche case and the murder of candidate Fernando Villavicencio, but claimed Correa’s camp is using the information to smear political rivals.
