Ecuador promotes regenerative livestock through PROFOSPE project
The Ecuadorian government, under President Daniel Noboa, is advancing sustainable livestock practices through the Sustainable Livestock Strengthening Project (PROFOSPE). To date, the initiative has trained 2,412 producers via 120 livestock training schools.
Running from January 2026 through 2029, the project aims to train 10,000 producers and distribute approximately 20,000 kits to establish silvopastoral systems. These systems are designed to promote profitability while conserving natural resources by recovering soil health, optimizing pasture management, and protecting water sources.
Participants may access a 75% subsidy on market value for essential equipment, including electric fences, mechanical milkers, and biodigesters. Environmentally, the implementation of silvopastoral systems is estimated to capture approximately 5.8 tons of CO2 equivalent per hectare.
