Ecuador protestors press for revocation of President Daniel Noboa

Civil groups marched in Quito toward the National Electoral Council (CNE) demanding the immediate release of signature forms needed for a recall referendum against President Daniel Noboa and Vice President María José Pinto. Organizers cite unmet campaign promises, tax hikes, the end of fuel subsidies, rising unemployment, power‑grid failures, insecurity and recent labor reforms as reasons for the recall.

Indigenous representatives, rural workers and union leaders plan to lodge a new petition with the CNE on Wednesday. Under the constitution, the CNE has up to 15 days after the June 23 deadline to validate and distribute the forms. Police dispersed the protest with tear gas. To trigger a vote, proponents must gather signatures from 15 % of registered voters – roughly two million signatures nationwide. Lawyer Washington Andrade, representing the RevocaEC platform, criticised the CNE’s handling and said the group will pursue legal action if delays continue.
