Ecuador schedules power cuts in Quito and other regions June 6‑7
The Ecuadorian government and the national electricity company have announced scheduled electricity outages for the weekend of June 6‑7 2026. In Quito, cuts will affect northern districts (Comité del Pueblo, La Bota, Barrio Los Bomberos) on Saturday between 09:00‑13:00 and southern districts (La Argelia, Hierba Buena, San Carlos del Sur) on Saturday between 08:30‑12:30. Work includes replacing deteriorated poles, upgrading medium‑ and low‑voltage lines, and installing new transformers to strengthen the grid ahead of the expected El Niño impacts. The Ministry of Environment and Energy clarified that the interruptions, limited to four hours each, will not be billed to consumers.
Similar maintenance operations are planned in other provinces, including Guayaquil, Yaguachi, Simón Bolívar, Pedro Carbo and surrounding rural areas, with specific neighborhoods and streets listed for each outage window. The overall program is part of a national maintenance schedule covering dozens of interventions across the country.
