Ecuador schedules power cuts; Venezuela governor warns of electricity failures
Ecuador's Ministry of Environment and Energy announced planned maintenance on the electric grid for Saturday 6 June and Sunday 7 June. The program will carry out 72 interventions across multiple zones, with scheduled outages in Guayaquil, Yaguachi, Simón Bolívar, Pedro Carbo and other areas, each with specific time windows such as 07:30‑10:30 in central‑south Guayaquil and 02:00‑05:00 in Yaguachi.
In the Venezuelan state of Táchira, Governor Freddy Bernal activated a contingency plan after prolonged electricity shortages left some northern municipalities without power for up to ten hours. He appealed to the ministries of water and electricity and the vice‑minister of services, and highlighted the impact of recent rains and a flood that damaged 34 homes. Bernal also used the occasion to criticize external sanctions and announced new social‑assistance facilities in San Cristóbal's passenger terminal.
