Magallanes Senator Bianchi Demands Transparency from Southern Chile Port Authority

Senator Karim Bianchi Retamales of Chile's Magallanes region formally requested the president of Empresa Portuaria Austral (EPA) to disclose the status of its investment portfolio. The request follows signals from the Ministry of Finance that a restrictive review of EPA’s international credit lines – including those with the Inter‑American Development Bank – may lead to cuts or delays in key port projects such as the expansion of the Mardones dock, upgrades to the Prat dock and connectivity improvements in Puerto Williams. Bianchi warned that central‑government cash‑flow pressures should not jeopardise essential regional infrastructure, which he said underpins industries like green hydrogen and Antarctic logistics. He asked EPA to provide full board minutes for the first half of 2026, a detailed prioritisation list of ongoing works, and a transparent account of any international loans under review.
