Ecuador and United States sign Frontera Segura security pact

On June 25, President Daniel Noboa met US special envoy Kristi Noem in New York to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation against organized crime, within the framework of the Escudo de las Américas initiative.

The following day, Ecuador and the United States signed an Implementation Letter for the “Frontera Segura” program. The agreement targets transnational crime, drug trafficking and illegal migration along the northern border and integrates the National Police, Armed Forces, Customs Service and migration authorities to improve coordination, information exchange and regional security. It builds on Ecuador’s Executive Decree No. 424, which authorises international assistance to combat criminal groups operating in the country.
