Ecuador social groups request revocation of President Daniel Noboa

Ecuadorian civil organisations, including the General Union of Workers (UGTE), the National Union of Educators (UNE) and the Confederation of Indigenous, Peasant and Afro‑Ecuadorian organisations (Fenocin), submitted a second formal request to the National Electoral Council (CNE) demanding the forms required to launch a constitutional revocation of President Daniel Noboa and Vice‑president María José Pinto. The dossier, more than 70 pages long, cites alleged violations of promises on employment, public security, fuel subsidies, and the recent increase of VAT from 12 % to 15 %.

The groups plan to collect roughly three million signatures – well above the 2.1 million required – and have organised marches in Quito to pressure the CNE to issue the forms. The council’s decision will determine whether the revocation process can proceed, marking the second such request after a similar initiative was presented on 9 June.
