Ecuador to Finalize Merger of Economy, Agriculture and Production Ministries by August 20
The Ecuadorian government is on track to complete the absorption of the Ministry of Production, Commerce, Foreign Trade and Investments and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries into the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The merger, mandated by Executive Decree 425 issued on June 18, 2026, sets a 60‑day deadline, with the target date of August 20. Current Finance Minister Sariha Moya confirmed that the process is proceeding smoothly and will not disrupt public services. Until the integration is finalized, Juan Carlos Vega and Luis Alberto Jaramillo will remain ministers of Agriculture and Production, respectively, while their ministries’ functions continue under existing structures. The new Ministry of Economic Development and Production will inherit all programs, contracts, assets and liabilities of the three former ministries, reducing the total number of ministries from fourteen to ten.
