Ecuadorian candidates emerge for 2026 sectional elections

Candidates for Ecuador's upcoming sectional elections on November 29, 2026, are being finalized across various provinces.

In Guayas, Sofía Espín is running for Prefecture with the support of the Socialist Party. An electrical engineer with a master's in education, Espín has previously served as a constituent assembly member and in the National Assembly. Meanwhile, Andrés Guschmer is making a second attempt at the Guayas Prefecture, this time representing the officialist movement Acción Democrática Nacional (ADN) after resigning from his seat in the National Assembly.

In Manabí, the Tribunal Contencioso Electoral (TCE) upheld the disqualification of Jaime Estrada Medranda's candidacy for Prefecture. The TCE denied Estrada's appeal against a decision by the National Electoral Council (CNE), citing a failure to provide a signed acceptance act for his candidacy, which violated regulations regarding democratic internal processes.
