Ecuadorian electoral board denies Luisa González's candidacy
The Manabí Provincial Electoral Board has denied the registration of former presidential candidate Luisa González for the upcoming local elections in November. The board ruled that González and her running mate, Gabriel Giler Reyes, failed to meet the internal requirements of the Pachakutik movement, specifically the mandate that candidates must be active members for at least two years.
González, a former leader of the Revolución Ciudadana party, sought the Prefecture of Manabí after her own party was suspended following an investigation into alleged illicit financing. The electoral board has granted the Pachakutik party 48 hours to either correct these errors or substitute their candidates for the Prefecture and Vice-Prefecture.
In Guayaquil, the electoral process for the Mayoralty is also underway. While eight pre-candidates have registered, the National Electoral Council (CNE) noted that the final list will not be confirmed until November 9, following a period of review and objections. The official campaign period is scheduled to run from November 12 to November 26, ahead of the November 29 elections.
