Ecuadorian Electoral Court Rejects Revocation Petition Against Vice President María José Pinto
On 30 July 2026, Judge Ivonne Coloma, president of Ecuador's Tribunal Contencioso Electoral (TCE), denied a request to revoke the mandate of Vice President María José Pinto. The petition had been filed by lawyer Jorge Cáceres, who alleged that the vice president had failed to meet obligations in her work plan.
The TCE ruled that the request did not specify the alleged breaches with the clarity and precision required by article 97 of the Código de la Democracia and related regulations. It concluded the petition failed to satisfy the criteria of article 25 of the Organic Law of Citizen Participation and article 14 of the Regulation for Direct Democracy. Cáceres may appeal the decision before the full TCE panel.
