Mishel Mancheno becomes President of Ecuador's National Assembly after Niels Olsen resignation
On 8 June 2026, Niels Olsen announced his resignation as President of Ecuador's National Assembly after serving for thirteen months. Olsen, a leading figure in the Acción Democrática Nacional (ADN) party, indicated he would pursue the prefecture of Guayas in the upcoming 2027 regional elections.
Following Olsen’s departure, first vice‑president Mishel Mancheno was sworn in as the new Assembly president.
